Sand casting, also known as sand molded casting, is a metal casting process characterized by using sand as the mold material. This process has a long and rich history. The Assyrian king Sennacherib (704–681 BC) cast massive bronzes of up to 30 tons, and claims to have been the first to have used clay molds. The term "sand casting" can also refer to an object produced via the sand casting process. Sand castings are produced in specialized factories called foundries.
