Choosing the Right Chandelier for Your Space
A chandelier adds a sense of “Awe” to any room. They can make a powerful statement in the home wherever you choose to hang them. Chandeliers aren’t just for dining rooms! You can place them in any room – if placed correctly they look great in bathrooms and over desks to give extra light and beauty!
The first step to choosing the right chandelier is size. You want to make sure you find the right size for the space you are using it in. Too big or too small can look strange and your new chandelier may not give you that jaw-dropping look you’re going for! You’ll want to first start by measuring the height of your room. The higher the ceiling, the taller the chandelier you want. Then, you may have to do some math. We have learned a great ratio: 2.5 inches in fixture height per 1 foot of room height. Simple enough, but now you need to think about diameter as well! This is mostly preference, or the look you are going for, but we say: if you add together the length and width of the room in feet then you can change that number to inches and that is approximately the diameter fixture that you should use in that size room. Example: If the room is 10’ x 16’ and you add those together getting 26’, then you should get a 26” diameter chandelier. Now if you are looking for a chandelier for your dining room there are a few more things to keep in mind. Chandeliers over dining tables should be around 30-34 inches above the table.
Now that math is over… let’s talk décor! You want to make sure that the chandelier you pick matches the décor of the room. If you have subtle and neutral then you want to make sure you stick to that theme with neutral colors and simple designs. If you want to make a statement and make people “WOW” then you want big and bold designs. No matter which way you go with your room a chandelier will add a sense of elegance to the space.
